Notice Regarding IdentificationThe State of Texas requires that your identification be either a valid, unexpired, United States federal or state government-issued identification card. If you cannot present one, then you are allowed to use a credible identifying witness. The credible witness must still provide the acceptable identification card, and will sign an affidavit vouching for the signer's identity. Texas law prohibits any exceptions. |

What Can Go Wrong?
It's true. Just like one might encounter issues when notarizing in-person, the online process does have a few kinks. We take the time to guide you through any issues that may arise. Our approach with our online notary clients is to patiently navigate with you, even if it takes a little longer than usual. Here are some common issues:
Here are some common issues:
- ID Verification: Some users may have a difficult time answering the randomized KBA verification questions. If you can't pass ID verification, we cannot notarize your docs.
- Internet Connection: Your internet connection needs to be solid. Some connections are interrupted with brief moments of video lag. Not to worry! We will patiently work though connection issues, and even reschedule if needed.
- Expired ID: Your ID card must be valid, government-issued, and compliant. If your ID card is expired, the notary is not allowed to proceed. You cannot use a picture of your ID card. In fact, you will be asked to upload a pic of your valid ID.
- Audio / Video: It is critical that you allow your audio and video device and browser permissions. Both features must be allowed, and it is required per state law. Check your device settings permissions.
What Makes Online ID Verification Different?
In order to complete an online notarization, the notary is required by Texas law to only proceed if the signer passes the Knowledge Based Authentication (KBA). There are no exceptions to this law. These KBA questions are answered at the beginning of the session by you, the signer(s). The notary is not shown your specific questions and answers during KBA, therefore they cannot help you answer them. You are allowed only 2 attempts per day to answer your questions correctly. If you pass the KBA questions, you will then be asked to upload a photo of your valid ID. The final step of online ID verification is a review by the notary of your valid ID photo, and to confirm you passed the KBA. Again, the notary cannot bypass KBA for you. This is essentially an extra step of verification, which is intended to reduce and eliminate fraudulent actions by imposters.
